Italian research in the Arctic: the Italian Government adopts the program 2018-2020.

The Arctic Research Program for the three-year period 2018-2020 was approved by the Italian Government on 27 March 2019.

It is a program of significant importance which will enable Italy to implement, among other things, the commitments made in the Joint Statement of the first Arctic Science Ministerial held in Washington DC on 28 September 2016.

The adoption of the program will allow the launch of calls for proposals addressed to the Italian scientific community for carrying out activities in the Arctic territories, thus expanding the support given by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research to scientific research activities carried out in Antarctica.

The program is funded by the Ministry with one million euros for each of the years in which the program spans.

The Italian National Research Council (CNR) is entrusted with the operational implementation of the program through a Scientific Committee for the Arctic in which the Ministry also participates.
