Visit by the Italian Ambassador to the Leonardo’s AW101 training center in Stavanger

The Ambassador of Italy to Norway, Alberto Colella, visited yesterday the training center of Leonardo SpA at Stavanger Sola airport. Equipped with a new Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for helicopters of the AW101 series, the center is a reference hub not only for training Norwegian crews but also for pilots from other countries.

The AW101 simulator, jointly developed by Leonardo and the Canadian CAE, meets the highest standards for commercial flight simulators. Located in a building adjacent to the Thales training center, the simulator is managed and operated directly by Leonardo’s Helicopters division. The center also hosts a training device of the Norwegian Air Force, connected to the flight simulator, dedicated to the training of cabin personnel  thus enhacing the preparation of the entire crew and the coordination of activities between pilots and rescuers in case of SAR operations.

The training facility was inaugurated in 2017, and is linked to the contract signed by Leonardo with the Norwegian Ministry of Justice for the delivery of 16 AW101 helicopters for search and rescue tasks, which includes a support and training package for the initial period of 15 years.
