Terracina Day in Oslo

Focus in Oslo on Terracina, the small town of Lazio, with an entire day dedicated to the promotion of its landscape, cultural and gastronomic excellence.

The “Terracina Day” event took place on Monday 25 March 2019 and was organized by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the local Authorities of Terracina. Attending the event were the city councilor delegated to twinning cooperation, Sara Norcia, and a delegation of companies of the territory that displayed the typical products of Terracina. Also representatives of the Hospitality, Food and Tourism Institute “A. Filosi ” attended.

The highlight of the day was a tasting of typical products at the Italian Embassy in Oslo. Aimed mainly to professionals in the food and wine industry (specialized journalists, tour operators, importers, buyers), the event had a guest of honour, famous local chef Enrico Chirico.

The cuisine of Terracina is influenced by two factors: its geographical location, halfway between Rome and Naples, and the combination of sea and mountain, generating dishes that bring with them century-long historical and cultural influences and that allow to experience intense and unique flavors.

Part of the day was also the presentation of the Italian translation of the book “Terracina. Fra oldtid til nåtid” (“Terracina. From antiquity to the present”), held in the afternoon at the Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo. The book is the first guide to the town of Terracina written in Norwegian by Paul Hedlund who for many years has been living partly in Oslo and partly in Terracina. The book tells of Terracina to Nordic readers illustrating all the stages of the town’s history: starting from the Volscian and Roman legends to the present day, without forgetting the events related to the work to bring to light the Roman theater and the discovery of numerous artifacts such as the statue of Diana.

Among the local producers who have joined the initiative are Cantina Sant’Andrea, France Latticini, Marasca Pelati, Antica Norcineria of the Agro Pontino ‘San Ciriaco’, De Gregoris Oil, Cooperative ‘La Valle’, Cooperative Pescatori di Terracina and Dario Ferri liquors.
