Official visit of the Italian Ambassador to Bergen

On 21-23 March 2019 Ambassador Alberto Colella made an official visit to Bergen, Norway’s second largest city and home to a vibrant, well-educated and active Italian community. The Ambassador was accompanied by Italy’s vice honorary consul, Erik Nordgreen, and by prof. Marco Gargiulo, coordinator of Italian Studies of the University of Bergen.

The program for the visit included meetings with the Mayor, Marte Mjøs Persen, and the University Rector, prof. Dag Rune Olsen.

The dynamic Italian community of the Hordaland region is numerous (around 800 registered countrymen) and is growing, fueled by the presence of Italian researchers and scientists working in the prestigious local university, but also the presence of professionals and workers in the most various fields.

Among the topics discussed during the cordial meeting with the Rector, there were the teaching of Italian language (the Ambassador visited in the morning, together with Prof. Marco Gargiulo, the Department of Italian Studies) and the collaboration with Italian universities.

The Rector then opened a well-attended meeting of students, professors and staff of the University during which the Ambassador presented the activities and priorities of the Embassy.

Finally, the Ambassador took part in an animated and interesting session of “Science without borders” -an initiative to foster cooperation and networking between Italian researchers and professionals in Norway organized by Comites- and a meeting with the head of the Dante Alighieri Society in Bergen, Graziella Van den Bergh.
