MAPEI opens a new plant in Norway

Tuesday, October 1, Ambassador Alberto Colella took part in the opening ceremony of the new MAPEI plant in Norway. Prime Minister Solberg also attended the ceremony.

Present in Norway since 2003, in the town of Sagstua, in the Nord Odal municipality about 80 km from Oslo, MAPEI is the market leader in the production of chemical building materials in this country. MAPEI has about 250 employees in Norway and the total turnover in 2018 amounts to 98 million euros.

The new plant, adjacent to the current one, adds 8,000 m2 to the existing structure, with an investment of 19 million euros. Most of the machinery used in the factory has been imported from Italy.

The main purpose of the new investment is to expand the plant’s production capacity in order to match the market demand, increasing throughout the Nordic countries, for products for cementitious and resin flooring, products for waterproofing and cement additives, with an important share reserved to concrete and its admixtures, of which Mapei is the undisputed market leader.

The decision pf the Italian group to increase its investments in Norway was welcomed by Prime Minister Solberg, who highlighted MAPEI’s innovative technologies and large investments in research and development (5% of turnover). In her speech (https://www.regjeringen.no/no/aktuelt/speech-at-the-opening-of-mapeis-new-fabric/id2670920/)  she greeted with great kindness the relations of friendship and collaboration (also economic ) between Norway and our country.

The Ambassador recalled the bilateral relations and the main characteristics of the Norwegian market. He underlined how the new plant is an important industrial reality in Nord Odal, perfectly integrated in the local economic context, also thanks to the clever policy of the Italian mother company. The Ambassador also stressed how MAPEI’s company philosophy focuses on globalization, respect for the environment, constant technological product development and increasing automation of production in order to conquer increasing production quotas in the world.
