The fishing sector in Iceland – new e-book from the Embassy

The Embassy of Italy in Oslo (also responsible for Iceland) continues to provide economic operators, companies and consulting firms, interested in investing in Norway and Iceland, with practical tools to get to know and to deal with these markets. It does so through the publication of thematic e-books

The new e-book, recently published in partnership with the Italian Trade Office – Stockholm, and completely free of charge, focuses on the Icelandic seafood sector.

Fishing is the second largest economic sector in Iceland, after tourism. With a population of only 360,000, Iceland is a global fishing giant with 1.5 million tonnes of fish caught in 2019 – 23% of the entire EU catch.

The Icelandic fishing zone covers an area of 758,000 square kilometers, with one of the most modern fishing fleets in the world.

Italy imports important quantities of fish from Iceland, especially cod, salmon and ling. A growth in trade is expected in the coming years, making the sector particularly interesting for Italian companies interested in maintaining commercial relationships or setting up business networks.
