Culture is a priority dimension in Italian foreign policy and in the activity of the Italian Embassy in Oslo. Together with the Italian Cultural Institute of Oslo and the Dante Alighieri Society, the Embassy is actively engaged in strengthening bilateral cultural relations and promoting Italian language and culture.

The Institute offers the following services to the public:
- a library available for consulting and borrowing books, videos, CDs and DVDs
- a reading room with Italian magazines and newspapers
- an information and documentation service on Italian culture
- information on enrolment to Italian universities and general information on Italian schools, academies and universities.
Furthermore, the Institute
- organizes exhibitions, concerts, seminars and other cultural events
- organizes updating seminars for teachers of Italian in Norway
- handles the scholarships awarded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Norwegian citizens

The Institute of Culture, which is an integral part of the Embassy, is actively involved in the main Norwegian music and culture festivals such as: - The Bjørnsson Festival in Molde

LANGUAGE CERTIFICATION
Language certification provides documentary evidence of proficiency, according to the competence levels specified by the Common Framework of Reference for European languages.
In order to certify the knowledge of Italian as a foreign language, the Quality Certification of the Italian Language (CLIQ) Association, was created, bringing together the four bodies entitled to certify: the Dante Alighieri Society, the University for Foreigners of Perugia, the University for Foreigners of Siena, the Roma Tre University.
The certifications are:
– CELI (Certificato di Lingua Italiana), issued by the University for Foreigners of Perugia
– CILS (Certificato di Italiano Lingua Straniera), issued by the University for Foreigners of Siena
– PLIDA (Programma Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri), issued by the Dante Alighieri Society
– IT (Certificato di competenza generale in italiano come lingua straniera), issued by the Roma Tre University
