NORWAY:
Local authorities have issued a red alert and an orange alert, for the risk of avalanches in central and northern Norway. The areas most affected are: Nord-Troms, Lyngen, Tromsø, Sør-Troms, Indre Troms, Finnmarkskysten, Vest-Finnmark (Troms og Finnmark County); Lofoten and Vesterålen Islands, Ofoten, Salten, Svartisen, Helgeland (Nordland County); Nord-Trøndelag; Trollheimen, Romsdal, Sunnøre (Møre og Romsdal); Indre Fjordane, Jotunheimen, Indre Sogn, Voss, Hardanger, Heiane.

Due to the increase in temperatures and rainfall, there is a risk of landslides, floods and mudslides, along the entire western coast of the country, from Tromsø to Agder County.

The ice is causing major disruption to rail and road traffic: in particular, in the county of Nordland, bus services have been cancelled in many areas, including the Lofoten Islands and Vesterålen.

Please exercise the utmost caution and check the weather forecasts before undertaking any type of excursion, ski mountaineering activity or travel, by visiting the “Varsom” website https://www.varsom.no/en/, also available as an application on the App Store and Google Play, which provides information and advice on the most correct behavior to observe, in terms of safety in the mountains.

ICELAND:
Following the latest eruption, which began on 20 November 2024 south of Stóra-skógafell, considered concluded by the Icelandic authorities, regular and constant monitoring by the competent bodies continues, in particular with respect to the uplift of the ground in the Svartsengi area and the accumulation of magma, the increase of which, if significant, could lead to new eruptive phenomena. Ice dams have formed in rivers throughout the territory of Iceland, with possible flooding.

High risk of avalanches is reported for the northern area of the Westfjords.

It is recommended to avoid prohibited areas and to constantly monitor the information provided by the local authorities on the website/App www.safetravel.is, on the Icelandic Civil Protection website http://www.almannavarnir.is/english/ and on the website dedicated to volcano monitoring https://icelandicvolcanos.is/
