{"id":8023,"date":"2026-06-22T11:52:03","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T09:52:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amboslo.esteri.it\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/06\/dallitalia-allartico-la-missione-scientifica-della-nave-alliance-in-islanda-e-alle-isole-svalbard\/"},"modified":"2026-06-22T11:58:33","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T09:58:33","slug":"dallitalia-allartico-la-missione-scientifica-della-nave-alliance-in-islanda-e-alle-isole-svalbard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amboslo.esteri.it\/en\/news\/dall_ambasciata\/2026\/06\/dallitalia-allartico-la-missione-scientifica-della-nave-alliance-in-islanda-e-alle-isole-svalbard\/","title":{"rendered":"From Italy to the Arctic: the vessel Alliance&#8217;s scientific mission to Iceland and Svalbard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The new mission of the vessel &#8216;<strong>Alliance<\/strong>&#8216; has begun, the Italian Navy and NATO vessel that will operate in the coming months between the North Atlantic and the Arctic, in one of the world&#8217;s most important strategic and scientific settings.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">On June 19, the Alliance reached <strong>Reykjavik, Iceland<\/strong>, where it will soon be a key player in <strong>Task Force X-Arctic<\/strong>, an innovative NATO program for monitoring the maritime environment.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The mission&#8217;s objective is to develop new capabilities to understand and monitor the Arctic, a maritime space increasingly important for environmental and international security reasons.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> The numerous researchers, technicians, and specialists from various international organizations aboard the Alliance , along with personnel from the NATO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), <strong>will test emerging technological solutions and autonomous monitoring systems<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">In the second half of July, the Alliance will participate in the tenth edition of the &#8220;<strong>High North\/Arctic Climate Observatory<\/strong>&#8221; scientific campaign, dedicated to <strong>studying the marine environment and climate change in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">This year, for the first time, the campaign will be conducted by the Italian Navy Hydrographic Institute and a team from CMRE.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">The Alliance\u00a0 is unique: owned by NATO, it has been operated by the Italian Navy since 2016 and is used as an experimental platform for oceanographic research.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> The 2026 expedition confirms <strong>Italy&#8217;s central role in international maritime research and in supporting the Atlantic Alliance&#8217;s activities<\/strong>, combining technological innovation, scientific knowledge, and security in one of the most fascinating and strategic frontiers of the 21st century.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The new mission of the vessel &#8216;Alliance&#8216; has begun, the Italian Navy and NATO vessel that will operate in the coming months between the North Atlantic and the Arctic, in one of the world&#8217;s most important strategic and scientific settings.
