On September 17, an official meeting took place in Oslo – at the government’s representative building – between the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre.
The meeting followed up on previous discussions held in Rome in the spring of 2025 and forms part of the ongoing strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.
At the conclusion of the working session, the leaders held a joint press conference focusing on shared priorities regarding European security, industrial competitiveness, and energy stability. Prime Minister Støre highlighted Italy’s prominent role as a strategic partner for Norway, emphasizing the need to intensify bilateral and multilateral cooperation in light of the current climate of geopolitical uncertainty.
During the talks, the political-diplomatic agenda focused on the following priority issues:
- Regional security and stability, with particular reference to developments in the conflict in Ukraine and security dynamics in the northern and Arctic regions.
- Energy cooperation, confirming the stability of hydrocarbon supplies to Italy and enhancing the industrial partnership in energy development.
- Strategic partnership and economic-industrial collaboration in high-tech sectors, including critical raw materials, space activities, maritime technologies, and the defense industry.
To conclude the official visit, the two heads of government attended a working dinner with the leadership of major Italian and Norwegian industrial groups, building upon the work of the Norwegian-Italian Economic Forum held in Rome earlier in the year.
