Risk and management of earthquakes. Seminar organized by the Italian Embassy and the Department of Geosciences of the University of Oslo

The Seminar “Risk and management of earthquakes. Analysis of the Italian case and importance of prevention and communication” will be held on Tuesday 13th of December 2016 from 18:00 to 19:35 at the Domus Academica – Auditorium 5 – Karl Johans gate 47, Oslo. The Seminar is organized by the Italian Embassy and the Department of Geosciences of the University of Oslo.

The centre of Italy has recently experienced severe earthquakes causing almost 300 deaths, destroying or making unfit for use thousands of buildings, with thousands of evacuees. This is not an isolated event, but earthquakes represent one on the major natural impacts affecting Italy and many other countries. Therefore, even though a lot of research activity has been conducted, is important to continue studying causes and starting mechanism of earthquakes. At the same time it is important to improve building techniques and adopt emergency plan, accompanied by effective communication strategies.

The purpose of this event, which is open also to non-experts of the sector, is to increase awareness on earthquakes and understand the causes of the high number of earthquakes in Italy and central Italy. Further, the event will present the audience some reflections on strictly related topics, including construction engineering and geoethics.
