On 24-25 November 2018 Ambassador Alberto Colella made an official visit to Trondheim, the third largest city in Norway and home to a vibrant, well-educated and active Italian community. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Honorary Vice Consul Carl Thodesen.
The program for the visit included a meeting with Deputy Mayor Ola Lund Renolen and the participation in the Christmas dinner of the Italian association of Trondheim.
The Italian community in the Trøndelag region is socially and culturally very dynamic. It is also numerically significant (about 500 countrymen) and constantly growing, also thanks to the presence of Italian researchers and scientists working at the prestigious local university and in several other research institutions, public and private.
These and other topics were discussed during a cordial meeting with Deputy Mayor Renolen, to whom the Ambassador also presented the proposal to organize, in 2019-20, an “Italian Day in Trondheim”, an event dedicated to Italy, featuring cultural, technological and gastronomic events to display Italian excellence. The possibility of extending to Trondheim the Italian film festival organized in Oslo in April 2019, in collaboration with Cinecittà International, was also mentioned.
The strong desire to regain and maintain ties (and traditions) with our country was clearly tangible during the busy julebord – the traditional Norwegian Christmas party – organized on November 24th by ItaT, the Italian Association in Trondheim.
