Together with the WHO and other partners, the EU is organizing an international donor conference which starts today 4 May 2020.
The initial goal is to raise € 7.5 billion in funds to start global research cooperation. The funds raised will finance three lines of intervention: diagnostics, treatments and vaccines.
The Covid-19 pandemic represents a global challenge and requires a global response. This initiative is part of a multilateral response to the Covid-19 crisis and follows on from the commitment made by EU leaders in the G20 and G7 meetings.
Co-chairs of the Conference are the European Union, France, Germany and Italy. On this occasion the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the Italian Council Giuseppe Conte, the French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg jointly published an article entitled “Working together to help the world get better”.
The article, translated into Norwegian, was published by today’s Aftenposten (p.25) entitled “Vi jobber sammen for å friskmelde verden”.
