After a warm welcome by the Honorary Consul Giuseppe Marinelli, university professor and founder of the ITAT association, on December 3rd the Italian Ambassador Stefano Nicoletti took part in a meeting with the Mayor of Trondheim, Rita Ottervik. The theme of the meeting was the contacts between the Municipality of Trondheim and the lively Italian community, now numbering 454 in the city and 614 in the region. Among the resident Italians there are numerous researchers and academics, given the presence in the city of the country’s main polytechnic, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

The Ambassador visited NTNU, where he met the Vice Rector of NTNU, Tor Grande, and numerous Italian professors. During the meeting, various topics were discussed, including the role of Italian teachers in the University, the possibility of creating an association that brings together Italian scientists and academics working in Norway and the cooperation between Italian and Norwegian research centres.

NTNU’s focus on Italy is noteworthy as demonstrated by the recent award to Italian professor Patricia Lago of an honorary doctorate for her significant scientific contributions to digital transformation and the development of software engineering. The Italian professor has been collaborating with the NTNU academic community for three decades.

Finally, the Ambassador was received by the Governor of Trøndelag County, Frank Jenssen, with whom he discussed the role of the Italian community in the region and possible collaboration initiatives, also in the promotional and cultural sector.
