The decoration of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy delivered to Kristin Sørsdal

On 20 January 2023, Ambassador Stefano Nicoletti delivered to Kristin Sørsdal the decoration of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, awarded by President Mattarella.

OSI is an award conferred by the President of the Italian Republic and represents a particular honour on behalf of all those, Italians abroad or foreigners, who have acquired special merit in the promotion of friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and other countries.

With her knowledge and professional commitment, Kristin has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to the diffusion of Italian language and literature in Norway.

She has the merit of having introduced Elena Ferrante’s entire literary production to the Norwegian audience, including “The Brilliant Friend“, a bestseller with more than 400.000 copies sold, for which she was awarded the Målprisen in 2016 and the Norwegian Critics Prize for the year’s best work of translation the same year. She also translated literary works of Wanda Marasco (The Company of Fake Souls), Giuseppe Ferrandino (Pericle il nero), Alessandro Leogrande (La frontiera). She is currently working on the translation of “One, No One and One Hundred Thousand” by Luigi Pirandello.

Over the years, she has become a significant point of cultural contact between Italy and Norway, strengthening cultural relations between the two countries and actively participating in many cultural promotion initiatives organized by the Embassy and the Italian Cultural Insitute in Oslo.
