In the context of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the photographic exhibition ‘Appia Antica, a journey through history‘ with shots by Andrea Frazzetta was inaugurated yesterday at the Italian Cultural Institute.
Frazzetta’s images show the timeless beauty of the “Queen of the roads”, the Via Appia, with its monuments immersed in the Agro Romano, with its archaeological heritage, natural beauty and rural life.
The inauguration at the Italian Cultural Institute, dedicated to the Appia Antica Park, was opened by speeches by representatives of the Archaeological Park (Dr. Lorenza Campanella), the Regional Park (Dr. Francesca Mazzà), the Tourism Dep. of the Latium Region (Dr. Erica Peroni and Roberto Battista) and Claudia Sonego, tourist guide in Rome and Lazio.
The exhibition takes place on the occasion of the seventh edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, dedicated this year to “Conviviality, sustainability and innovation: the ingredients of Italian cuisine for personal health and the protection of the Planet”.
At the event, which celebrates Latium’s heritage and products, participated various institutional partners: the Italian Ambassador in Oslo, Stefano Nicoletti, the Councilor for Agriculture and Economic Development of the Latium Region, Enrica Onorati, the Tourism Department of the Region Lazio, the Appia Antica Archaeological and Regional Parks and Enit.
Simone Quilici, Director of the Appia Antica Park, was particularly satisfied with this initiative wth the aim of promoting Italy’s wonderful historical and cultural heritage to the Norwegian public.
He says: “Even today, over 90% of tourists do not go beyond the Aurelian walls, stopping within the Porta di San Sebastiano, originally “Porta Appia”, losing the opportunity to get to know one of the most evocative places in Rome.”
Quilici thanked Ambassador Stefano Nicoletti and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute Raffaella Giampaola for the opportunity to extend the knowledge of the ancient Via Appia to new audiences – currently at the center of an important recovery and enhancement operation promoted by the Ministry of Culture in view of its forthcoming inscription on the Unesco World Heritage List.
