Iceland: Volcanic activity

iceland

In recent days, no significant activity has been recorded in the volcanic area around Grindavik on the Reykjanes peninsula, where a new strong eruption began on January 14th.

However, the affected area remains closed and excursions are prohibited. The Blue Lagoon tourist site has partially reopened.

The eruption area on the Reykjanes peninsula is constantly monitored by the Icelandic authorities, in light of the risk of new eruptive phenomena.

It is recommended to avoid prohibited areas and to constantly monitor the information available to travelers and residents provided by the local authorities on the site/app www.safetravel.is, on the Icelandic Civil Protection website http://www.almannavarnir.is/english/ and on the website dedicated to volcano monitoring: https://icelandicvolcanos.is/

It is also advisable to always keep yourself informed, including through the media, about the meteorological situation (http://en.vedur.is/) and the road situation (http://www.vegagerdin.is/english) and to always follow, during your stay, the measures issued by the local authorities.
