The Italian Ministry of Culture has recently launched the first version of the Musei Italiani app, the official application of the National Museum System, connected to the related “Musei Italiani” platform, which provides users with information about Italy’s national museums and allows for the digital purchase of tickets.
The app offers details on 406 Italian museums and archaeological parks, in Italian and in English, and geolocates cultural sites for the visitor. Furthermore, in order to ensuring maximum accessibility, thanks to a simple filter system, it is possible to search for the most suitable services for each visitor, both in terms of logistics and accessibility.
Available for free on major platforms, the app has already issued over 3 million tickets and collected more than 11 million euros. Relevant numbers, both because they are in line with the country’s digital transformation objectives and because the absence of intermediation costs constitutes an economic advantage for the Administration and the visitors.
This tool will gradually be extended to all state public museums and will be made available for places of culture administered by local authorities, universities, dioceses or privately owned, with the aim of making it the privileged portal for access to a network of almost 4,900 Italian museums.
The app therefore aims to enhance even the lesser-known cultural sites of Italy’s cultural heritage, diversifying tourist flows.
New features, such as recommended itineraries and audioguide services, are being developed to enhance the visitor’s experience and promote accessibility to places of culture.
